Perfection ...
...

... times two!!
...

It's still close as Geoff and Matt pursue Doug.
...

With the leeward mark fast approaching, Geoff (9483) could ensure that he will have an overlap by pulling the Marc Bennett trick of heeling the boat well to windward in order to take some of Doug's wind while reducing the risk of immediately fouling Doug, should the latter slow down significantly.
...

Sue and Stephan look much better under their borrowed spinnaker today.
(But Mike Mac would frown if he saw the main cunningham in use on the run!!!)
...

Aha! Andrew's and Julie's spinny looks much better today, now that the pole has been raised a bit.
...

It's a close, fine-looking duel between Andrew and Michael (7379).
...

A relaxed two-sail run for Brett and Ross.
...

Dwight and Pat cross the finish line in flawless trim.
...

It's a close fight over 4th between Sue (4677) and Doug (1366) as both are about to cross the finish line (between the camera and the mark, more or less). Who should do what here to help their chances? - If you said, "Doug should tack." you were right on!  By tacking to starboard here, Doug will (a) sail straight at the line while tacking, and (b) sail at a better angle to the line after his tack, i.e. one that will take him more directly towards the line. In the end, I think Doug got the nod anyway, but it's the principle that's important here!!
...

Doug and Carol make a flawless finish, right at the favoured leeward end, nicely ...
...

... ahead of (Andrew Haill and) Michael.
...

Problems with the camera settings in the next few shots. The final minute before the start of race 3:
some of us edge towards our chosen spot on the line.
...

Uncle Al (r) appears to have nailed this start and to make things worse for the others, now has a nice lift!!
...

Ooops! A late start for Andrew, but it could be worse ... note the boat far back of Andrew!
...

Once Henry has his problem solved, he'll want to move forward to keep the transom from dragging.
...

A classic case of trying to fight weather helm, as evidenced by the water flow off the rudder. Here it's best to let the boat round up some and then ease the main to permit some bearing away without the rudder drag caused by trying to bear away while heeling too much - all this before the boat slows down appreciably. Considerably more vang tension would help here as well.
...

Note how much more the top of Andrew's sail (9657) is twisting off than the other mains, all due to loose vang.
...

Better late than ...
...

... never???
...

Again, no real evidence of weather helm being fought,
so Ross must be letting Georgie Girl round up in the recommended fashion.
...

A healthy lead for Uncle Al in this one, over ...
...

... a pretty snappy-looking fleet.
...

Toodle-oo is a lovely sight against the dark background of the northern woods.
...

Silverfox, too!
...

A marvellous-looking three-way tussle among ...
...

... Geoff, Dave (282) and Fred (7379). Er, Geoff! It's about your vang!!! Of course, Geoff and Matt
are in the process of pulling away here, but it's definitely not due to the set of their main!!!
...

The battle continues between Fred with Michael (7379) and Dave with Carol.
...

And now Sue and Stephan arrive on the scene to complicate matters further. Dave and Carol have gybed but are now on port and will have to keep clear of the other two who remain on starboard. Fred, as close to Sue as he is, is effectively blocked from gybing until Sue does so.
